Our congratulations go to everyone who took part, as well as to Steve Davidson and the organisational team from Greater Manchester Police and the officials and staff that made this another great championships.
14 PSUK swimmers competed at the 2014 British Masters Short Course Championships in Sheffield between 24th and 26th October. The highlight of the team's weekend was in the 100-119 years relay team events. Hayley Bird, Brian Steatham (West Midlands), Aimee Ramm (Leicestershire) and Aaron Jones (GMP) broke the British Record in the 4 x 50m mixed freestyle relay in a time of 1min43sec.01 and the following day again in the 4 x 50m mixed medley relay in a time of 1min53.85.
The 2nd PSUK Open Water Championships were held in conjunction with the Swim North West Open Water Festival at Salford Quays. This was a great opportunity for police swimmers to swim alongside the public and the event had a great community feel to it. Numbers were up by 50% from the inaugural championships last year to a pleasing 60. Swimmers had the option of competing in distances of 3000, 1500 or 500m.
The British Masters Long Course Championships took place 13-15th June 2014 at the Wales National Pool in Swansea; it last being held there some 11 years ago (seems like only yesterday!). A record number of swimmers took part in the 3 day programme of events; 13 hour days demonstrated how many competitors there were.
