14 PSUK swimmers competed at the 2014 British Masters Short Course Championships in Sheffield between 24th and 26th October. The highlight of the team's weekend was in the 100-119 years relay team events. Hayley Bird, Brian Steatham (West Midlands), Aimee Ramm (Leicestershire) and Aaron Jones (GMP) broke the British Record in the 4 x 50m mixed freestyle relay in a time of 1min43sec.01 and the following day again in the 4 x 50m mixed medley relay in a time of 1min53.85.
Bird continued her winning streak in the 25-29 year age group winning all events she entered; 50m and 100m backstroke and the 50m and 100m freestyle. In the 30-34 year age group Ramm won the 50m fly, 50m and 100m freestyle and came second in the 100m fly events. Steatham collected a handful of medals in the 30-34 years breastroke and freestyle events; silver in the 100m free and bronze in the 50m and 100m breastroke and 50m free. Richard Evans (Met) had a good weekend in the distance events; picking up silver in the 1500m freestyle and bronze in the 400m Individual Medley in the 45-49 year age group.
Newcomer, Graeme Wilson (Scotland) competed in the 50-54 age group coming 2nd in the 200m freestyle and 3rd in the 100m fly. Picking up bronze medals were; in the 25-29 category Gemma Horwell (Derby) for her performance in the 1500m freestyle and Sarah Hempenstall (Surrey) in the 200m freestyle 35-39 age group.
Bird, Hempenstall, Shona Douse (Scotland) and Ramm swam to victory in the ladies 120-159 years 4 x 50m freestyle team. Other medal success was had in the 72+ years 4 x 50m mixed freestyle relay; Reyan Al-owaied (D&C), Sara Gamble (West Mids), Douse and Todd Alsop (Met) collected a silver medal.
Overall the team had successful championships in and out of the pool!
